"The Alchemyst" by Michael Scott is the first book in "The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel" series. If you are a "Potterhead", the name Nicholas Flamel might sound familiar to you :) "The Alchemyst" takes place in a world very similar to the one portrayed by J. K. Rowling in her "Harry Potter" books - it is full of magical adventures, mythical creatures, age-old prophecies, and powerful characters. Two teen-aged twins named Sophie and Josh Newman find themselves thrust into a new and magical world when they witness an evil magician named Dee attack the immortal Nicholas Flamel and his wife Perenelle in an attempt to steal the Codex (a book full of magical secrets that the Flamels protect).
Why I chose this book... -"The Alchemyst" is very similar to "Harry Potter" (which I love) -In you enjoy "The Alchemyst", there are 5 sequels: "The Magician", "The Sorceress", "The Necromancer", "The Warlock", and "The Enchantress") -Throughout the series, the characters visit some well-known tourist attractions (including Paris and Alcatraz) and meet some historical figures (such as Joan of Arc and Shakespeare) -Similar to the popular "Fantastic Beasts" movie series, Sophie and Josh Newman encounter exciting mythical creatures and magical beasts on their journeys -In my opinion, this book would be great for a book report/ independent novel study (check with your teacher first) -According to Michael Scott's website, "The Alchemyst" is going to be made into a movie :)
