In "Red Queen" by Victoria Aveyard, the world is divided by the colour of your blood - those with silver blood have special abilities and rule over those with red blood whereas those with red blood have no special abilities and serve those who have silver blood. Mare Barrow has red blood but, when she is unexpectedly thrown into the world of the silver royals and the scarlet guard rebellion, she discovers that she is extremely powerful...maybe even more powerful than the silvers. Rise Red as the Dawn Why I choose this book... -It was a great read - it reminded me of some of my other favourite book series including Harry Potter and the Mortal Instruments -Similar to district 12 from the Hunger Games (another one of my favourite books), the Stilts (where Mare and her family live) is also a dystopian society -Mare Barrow is a strong and brave female role model :) -If you liked this book, there are 3 sequels - I am reading the second book (Glass Sword) right now! -This book had a little bit of everything - action, adventure, supernatural, drama, and romance
